So What’s All this with the $100 Start-Up, Anyway?

Back in October of 2010, Jamestown Coffee hosted a book signing for Chris Guillebeau, author of The Art of Non-Conformity. We had enjoyed Chris’s book, and had a great time with Chris who was at the time on a 50 state book tour.

In 2011, Chris was hard at work on another book, which was about people who have found a way to follow their passions as a way of life. Chris had set a personal goal for himself to visit every country on the planet Earth. Lofty yes, but he’s almost done! And he found a way to live the life he wanted to live and make a living doing it.

After months of extensive research and meeting and interviewing people all over the world who found a way to work for themselves, The $100 Start-Up was published May 8 by Crown Books.

We’ve mentioned much of this in a previous post here at Jamestown Coffee, in an effort to shamelessly plug our minor participation in the book. But what we really want to communicate here is this: if you are looking for a way out of the rat-race, for a guide to change your life and embark on an adventure you will never regret, Chris has some solid, proven guidance for you in his new book.

Among Chris’s key principles: if you’re good at one thing, you’re probably good at something else; never teach a man to fish – sell him the fish instead.

This is not one of those get-rich-quick books. If you’re looking to do that, this is not the book for you. But if you you’re looking for a way to find some satisfaction and purpose in what you do, then we highly recommend this read.

Now is the time, according to Chris in his latest blog post. To start a new life, to reinvent yourself, to pursue your passion and turn it into something that has meaning.
